I had a breast reduction 13 years ago and this is not normal. I was a naturally skinny girl who was a genetic freak with DDD boobs. I was so happy to get rid of those monstrosities that I did not take enough time rest and heal as the doctor ordered. Yes, my scars were bright red for a couple of months but they never looked like that. They never oozed or were wide open like hers. Within three months the scars were light and flesh colored. Even now new boyfriends don't notice until I point it out to them. Also, it looks like he took too much out. I'm sure this procedure has improved greatly in the past 13 years. I didn't even go to a fancy "Hollywood" doctor. My heart goes out to that poor woman.

THEY GOT INFECTED!!!! Maybe non-medical experienced people have a hard time seeing it. That caused the scarring, it is not the person holding the scalpel, that is always a clean cut, it is what happens afterwards that makes the difference.

I agree that it seems this lady did not take care of her incisions. I just did a breast reduction 4 weeks ago, and I have similar scars as she does. However, the doctor warned, if u do not rest and minimize movement, u will open the incisions....basic common sense because even when I was coming out of bed, that little pressure strained the same spot on my breast as where this lady's scar is open. But everyone's situation is different...just my opinion.

My comment to the first comment. Since when is purulent drainage not a sign of infection?? Take a better look at those photos.

Just by looking in the pictures I can tell you that in the tummy tuck picture, scars don't just open by themselves she could had been negligent in the way she took care of herself, scars open when you move to much and don't rest enough. In the breast lift picture, she looks like she didn't apply any Neosporin or used a barrier or bandage between her skin and her shirt, she could have removed the bandages too soon or let them get infected and that could have easily caused the scarring. I don't see any marks that she washed her skin with Betadine to disinfect her skin. Awful, just awful.

These pictures show "wound dehissence", when sutures or staples are removed prematurely, or pop out due to movement and stress placed on that body part by the patient. It can also be caused by infection, but the wounds in these photos - while gruesome to the untrained eye - do not show any significant signs of post-operative infection. A surgeon can do everything right, the patient can follow the surgeons instructions for post-op care, and they can still have a bad outcome. It happens, people. And sometimes it is simply no one's fault. Deal with it. Plastic surgery is still MAJOR SURGERY. THERE ARE RISKS INVOLVED, INCLUDING BEING SCARRED AND MAIMED FOR LIFE.

i remember a cable channel documentary about bad plastic surgery. one thing i did remember, was that it said never get plastic surgery done in Florida because that state does not regulate that kind of surgery. any doctor in florida can call him/her self a plastic surgeon. this surgeon is from california, so i can not comment about that state.

If you are going to have surgery please follow all the post-op directions, make sure you don't have abnormal scarring, and remember there is ALWAYS a chance of negative side effects. The lady in the picture should have never needed plastic surgery if she kept her mouth shut and stopped stuffing her face with food. Then she wants a quick easy fix. After surgery she probably gained weight and stretched her scars before they healed. I am sorry she scarred so bad but there is ALWAYS a chance of this. I am sure there are a LOT more people happy with their tummy tucks and breast lifts you just only hear of the bad ones, we love drama. How many people go out there and "complain" that they had a good plastic surgery??????????

I think each person should appreciate the body that they have if not happy, proper eating and lots of exerzise will keep the body well fit. Dr. A. should have gotten his patients whole medical history and be able to work with the scars and referials should be mandated.

to orange oprah!!! you should not judge a woman until you know what the hell you are talking about... for all you know that woman had five children shoot maybe even one and had a very hard time trying to lose her 'baby weight'... i just had a baby 3 months ago and i sure as all get out do not look like i did before i got pregnant and i know that all the workouts in the world will not get me back to the way i used to be without the money that millionaires and/or celebrities have... so think before you judge!!!

As a nurse, let me just say that sometimes it is NOT the surgeons fault, uninformed people don't realize that it is up to your own body how well or bad you will scar. Some people unknowingly suffer from various degrees of keloid formation and that is not up to the doctor. Sometimes people need surgery to get rid of scars from surgery and even then there's a possibility that you might scar the same way. In this picture above, both her breast lift and tummy tuck scarred badly indicating she could most likely have a not-so-glamorous way of scarring. I have seen much worse scarring, from patients who scar badly even from regular cuts.

I have a friend who had almost the same surgery and hers opened up like that too, it is from removing the stapes/stitches too soon. So I don't see that it is the dr's fault. It is called dehissing and it the only way to prevent it is to leave the stitches/staples in longer than the dr says. Not to mention you are not supposed to lift or do anything stressful for 6+ weeks after having a major surgery like this, so while this woman is complaining maybe she should tell what she has been doing all this time.

OMG - This poor woman and all the rest who have been treated by him - what a NIGHTMARE. They all have my prayers and I do hope they will recover in all ways :-)
