I have 5 tattoos, and no one else sees them but me. I didn't get them for "street cred". That's a laughable idea when applied to me and many others. Tattoos if well thought out are extremely personal and meaningful. There are excellent examples of beautiful, artistic renderings whose medium happens to be skin created by true artists and there are really bad, thoughtless, ill-conceived tattoos by hack tattooers. And as with anything, they aren't for everyone. It's just a shame that people are judged on something so trivial. And to the person mentioning the dogs, what a nonsensical comment. My husband has 17 tattoos on various parts of his body and dogs love him. We're both considered upper middle class americans, with professional jobs, so to classify everyone with tattoos in one fell swoop just shows prejudice and ignorance on your part.

Oh, and by the way. I'm not insecure. I'm not a wannabe. And my tattoos are far from "dark blue spots" on me. They are vivid colors and great designs. Wait, that sounds like art to me. And we choose to get tattoos on our bodies because we EXPRESSING OUR OWN ART FORM. Our INDIVIDUALITY. How hard is that for people grasp? And sure, they may look gross when I'm old, but so would the rest of my body from being wrinkling and sagging. It makes no difference. Just open your minds a tad bit and realize that this is not just a trend. It's beautiful, and it's here to stay. Deal with it.

Wow. I am still amazed at how many people out there are so narrow minded about tattoos. Sure, they're permanent. Sure, some people shell out the money to have them removed later. But, that's why you do you research and make sure you get a damn good artist that will give you a damn good tattoo that you won't have to get removed later. Tattoo's are art, and when they are done right, they are beautiful. My boyfriend is a tattoo artist himself, and to the guy who said dogs are afraid of the? That's crap. My b/f has them on his hands, neck and arms, and not one dog is scared of him. Just because someone is tattooed does NOT mean they are abusive and a**holes. Do your research, punk. My grandpa is tattoo-less, and he beat the crap outta my family. Oh, and by the way, I'm tattooed up myself, and still have a respectful job, make good money, and I'm not trash. Think before you speak, and stop being so narrow minded.

Really 'douchebag' referst to the lack of acceptance and individuality in our modern world. To catagorize someone at this time for body art or assume it is a 'hollywood' trait says you are the one stuck in he dark ages. Whether you have them r not, why would it be 'yucky' on others. As far as I'm concerned all old people are ugly..with or without tattoos. I really hate that argument "What will they look like when your old??!!" I really don't understand why people care so much..do you have nothing better than to worry about the young girl at the mall that has a tattoo on her ankle and how when she is 80 it will still be there?? And no I don't have a tattoo..but i would never judge some one who does. People are so judgemental it makes me sick.

tattoos can be very tasteful and beautiful work of art. everyone is entitled to ur own opinions, so stop trashing the ppl that love tats. i have 2 tats, and plan on getting more. im not doin it for STREET CRED...i get tattoos that mean somethin to me. With exception to indigenous cultures that accept tattooing as a sociocultural norm (ie Maori natives in New Zealand), showy tattoos is garish and often repulsive. Sure, it helps up the street cred, but here's the fact: dogs at the animal shelters are genuinely afraid of men with tattoos on face, neck, arms and hands. What does this tell you? Tattooed = obnoxious, abusive and mean-spirited. It's funny that some of the people who chose to have tattoos like young women opt for "tramp stamp" on the leg/ankle, neck and lower back will end up having to shelling out $$$ for laser removal some years later, because they realize that as they get older, their saggy lower back and neck showing wrinkled tattoo are disgusting sight that would be publicly humiliating. Why American people chose to get several tattoos on their bodies is beyond my comprehension, and it has to do with showing off in being rad and hip. LMAO, egomaniacs.

Hey "douchebag", tasteful tattoos are beautiful, people dont just get tattoos because everyone in Hollywood has them. Tattoos have been around long before Hollywood was here, so get your history straight before you start mouthing off chick....so go get you one and then maybe youll b happy with your life and leave tattooed people alone!
