  Also, since actors, athletes, and essentially anyone who is seen as an important person in the eyes of the public is bound to be a role model to someone, especially someone who is a major part of the sports industry, one of the largest and most influential industries in the world. so the issue here is not whether he can do these things, because obviously he physically CAN, but whether it is ethically and morally responsible of him, since he is affecting so many lives with his decisions.

  with respect to karolyns statement, unfortunately its not that simple. Barkley is a major public icon, a major sports star, and that makes him a hero and a role model in the eyes of many people, especially younger people. Yes, he is technically free to do what he wants, to wear what he wants, but to think that he's not going to influence people, to think that if he's driving drunk he's not going to make some little kid somewhere think "hmm, if driving drunk is ok for charles barkley, then its good enough for me, and all those people who think otherwise are wrong, because barkley is a great person", is irresponsible and blind to the situation. Also, to claim that he doesn't want to be a role model is irresponsible of him, because to be in his position is to BE a role model.

  Charles Barkley does not have to be a role model for anything besides his sports stats. Most of you need to put on your grown up pants and get over it. No one is crying racism enough already every seems to forget about the famous white actor caught with the not famous Black prositute and no one even cared or got upset with him just the prositute. He can wear whatever clothes he sees fit. This is America land of opportunity, judgement crazy people in denial and I have to ask the question are your mad, upset because he ran a stop light and is rich? Are really mad, upset because when run stop lights you are not in the paper? Or is it because most of you are immature and have not learned the value of minding your own business.

  Hey, everyone ! now that more facts came out to the public eyes, I just think he is pretty much just a slob ! Nice role model for the kids... and I mean that! They can see and read about another role model who messed up and hope the kids learn that you do wrong and drink and drive you get caught and pay for the crime and the other part of your actions... wellit discusses me, just be glad you don't get sick with a disease from someone that is not clean...and aren't you married?

  time and time again i cant understand why so many stars drink and drive if i had all there money u can bet i would have some one to drive me around so this does happen when are these stars going to wake up and stop this nonsense of drinking and driving i mean they have more money and fame then most of us and the still do this. then guess what they should be made a exampel of the rich do stupid things they get punished and go to prison hey wake up hollywood have someone drive u around

  Since Charles Barkley has nothing else to do with his MONEY, besides getting drunk and handing it over to the city of Phoenix. He could pay my house off and claim it as a contribution for taxes. And not get drunk! love ya charles

  He got the same as we all did , busted and a taxi. The police even drove my truck home for me that night cause it was full of tools, and even drove me home with my dog in the back seat. I was cuffed but my dog Cheyenne wasn't LOL! He will get what we all who have screwed up got !!! He will now become saddle broke after a year's suspension of drivers license, jail at tent city 30 days work release. Alcohol classes and the famous hummer (blow machine) installed after a year of suspension of driving. I gotta say that drinking and driving is stupid as I was that new years eve what a way to start a new year. Get ready to be saddle broke Mr.Barkley sorry it happened to you. Good Luck and Happy New Year. Take heed to all of this important reminder it happens to all who drink and drive.
