Dennis Farina Arrest

Didn't think it was possible, but Dennis Farina is even MORE attractive to me than he already was now that I know he carries a gun! More than a fine actor, this man seems like the real deal - one of the few men (like Tom Selleck, Kelsey Grammer, etc.) who represent (on and off screen) the strong, masculine, politically incorrect, etc. style we rarely see anymore in Hollyweird. He is good in everything he does - I especially loved him on Law & Order and really miss him on that show. I couldn't believe it when I saw on TMZ how he was arrested for what was obviously an innocent mistake - ridiculous! You know, maybe if we were to solve the problem of the REAL criminals who have been allowed to take over this society, decent people like Mr. Farina wouldn't have to carry a gun in the first place.

Farina's arrest has made for some really interesting entertinment news coverage. He seems like a decent guy! Even the most knowledgeable people can do really stupid things! I though his apology was classy; especially if he worded it himself.

Nick De Luca, I suggest you go do some investigating before popping off on what you think you know. Attempting to carry a firearm onto an aircraft with only a badge as a current or retired officer will result in you being arrested. All "LEOs" (Law Enforcement Officers) Must check in with TSA when entering the security checkpoint. You will be asked to present your credentials and sign a log book affirming your need to fly armed. If you have travel orders, you will be asked to present them. Word to the wise...Know the facts before heading to the airport or you will end up looking like Farina.

I feel sorry for the guy, he owned and carried his handgun legally in Arizona then forgot it was in his briefcase when he entered CA and went to the Airport. Was it stupid? yes, should it be a felony? no. There is no such thing as an "unregistered" gun in most of the country. The upgrading to a felony was due to a stupid CA law that requires handguns brought into the state to be registered with the police: he didn't know the handgun was in his briefcase so how could he register it? The forces of law and order reacted with zero tolerance to a simple mistake, Farina had no criminal intent.

If it is true that a RETIRED cop can take a loaded firearm onto a plane (regardless of whether he took some goofball course or not), then I am am truly going to start a campaign over that. How idiotic!! (and how safe can an elderly man with a gun be anyway?!!). I absolutely do not believe that is true. And I certainly don't think a current Barney Fife should be carrying a loaded gun on a plane either.

Okay here is the skinny... A retired (with at least 15 years of service) or current police officer can carry a concealed handgun out of state under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (aka HR218). However they must have qualfiied with that gun and carry their police id (or 'retired' id if they are retired). But that act does *NOT* include the right to carry on board an aircraft (or the sterile area in an airport). Off-duty local police can't carry on board commercial aircraft PERIOD. On duty local police can only do it on duty if they meet certain strict requirments. Going on vacation is not one of them. Federal agents are pretty much exampt from any of those requirements.

Bottom line is the guy broke the law. Do you really want Nick's beloved LAPD at the LAX?? He would have been beat with a flashligh on his way to jail. The LAPD are such nice guys, they would have let him walk, hahaha.

Only criminals use or carry unregistered firearms. Do you want to know why? For an ex cop, it's not to much on what he's thinking carrying a concealed weapon. It's carrying a concealed unregistered firearms. The stuff you buy in the black market. Illegally obtained firearms sold by criminals and used by criminals. Now you go figure out what he's really thinking. O.K. O.K., we'll just call what he's carrying "just in case #?$!@ You fill in the blanks.

What a crock. It is a FELONY to attempt to introduce a loaded firearm into the AOA (Airport Operations Area) - I have personally seen police officers (usually from crappy little limitied staus departments ie: School Districts especially) try to play the "I'm on duty" line of crap at the checkpoint. And guess what, they are turned away! So why is this clown actor so special? He isn't. PERIOD.

Poster is wrong...Any retired or current peace officer that has completed a firearms class perscribed by the FAA which is the sameone the Air Marshalls take can carry a loaded firearm onboard. California Highway Patrol has offered the class to is select rank and file...Now as for arresting a retired Police Officer for a felony for non-registered firearm is a bunch of bull. Thats why the Airport Police is so Rinky Dinky and the LAPD will end up soon taking over the World Airport I.E. LAX... This guy desirves a break and he will get one wait tell the Court and DA say the last word. Just one Retired Officers Opinion...Glad it was a Airport Cop Booking him instead of our LAPD and my former department. Peace-Out

Sorry Gman--he has just made his situation WORSE by the gun being unregistered. Only current "FEDS" can carry guns on planes or federal Sky Marshals. A full sworn police officer "must" check in his weapon prior to boarding the plane. For example,a policeman in California cannot carry a weapon in any other state than his home state where he is a sworn officer. Farina is none of these--just a knucklehead who probably forgot he was getting on a plane. Gonna cost him a few bucks to defend but his intentions don't APPEAR to be malicious.
