4. I am not impressed with his style and his selections of mixing antiques and modern items. Seems that he has missed the boat. Example, the dinning room table with the leather chairs on the front page of this website looks wonderful but, the light fixture over the table does not go with what is in the room and should be put in a kitchen over an island. Yes, you can mix the two togather but, they should blend togather like colors in a painting. His work does not show that. I agree with the person above that Candice Olsen could and would do a much better job and for a lot less money. With people losing their jobs and doing without, I think that the Obama family should limit what they do as I am sure that the White House rooms are in good shape to begin with and from what I saw of Laura Bushes decoration taste, it is clean cut and nice. I know that the new President gets a decorating allowance but, with things being the way that they are, shouldn't they cut back and spend less?

5. I think that they probably go through a series of interviews before they are seleted and in this case one of the most important part of design will be knowing about history and all that implies (antiques, uniquenes, restoration, etc.)So in my opinion this pictures show some of that. We have to remember that the white house is not a casual living space and yes they should be classic and elegant.
6. Just out today...the Wall Street guy who had Michael Smith decorate his office. No pics yet, but furniture items listed at hugely inflated prices. No more than 10 rooms of the 67 pictured are really good. And why wouldn't he have submitted his very best portfolio of work?? HGTV has a designer, Candace Olson, of "Divine Design" whose work far outshines what we've seen of Michael Smith's work. And my guess is her final bill would be much more in line with reasonable expectations. Her rooms are outstanding, not run of the mill.
8. jealous? always...most people are. these designs are all beautiful. i used to design and the pier1 comment was really funny. think again. you can't tell the difference between fine furniture and pier1 imports? maybe one day all of you who criticize this talented artist will be so lucky to have someone equally blessed with such creative talent offer you some tips. show you what is tasteful and what's not. creative talent is born and taste comes with it. do not criticize what you are obviously lacking. learn from it and admire it and we creative will learn from all of your talents and maybe more people will get the clue and realize this is how we need each other. we are all good at something. some are good at many things. share what you do well with others and learn from what others share with you. jealous, criticism is self defeating.
11. Thrift shop decor from the 70's! Recycling is green. Faux cinder block wallpaper looks tres chic in the formal living room (and to think that I was trying to figure out a way to cover my real cinder blocks in the basement) Will there be old tires put in the rose garden as planters as well?
Well we were told there would be change - hopefully some of it will be good.
12. With all due respect we are looking at a pic the size of my hand - not a 52" plazma so give the guy a break. I think he will do a nice job for what the Obama's want. My house isn't anywhere near any of these pics so he can come over anytime. Have a good day!

7. Designers work with the style of their client. This samples they show are not for the white house...Obama's tastes and style will be brought in.
