You are talking about size 12 but none of the above fat people are even close to a size 12. They are closer to 20 or 24. So if size 12 is average why show people who are way above average?
purpleman, sizes have been getting smaller, not larger. A size 12 would be obese on just about anyone. I am 5'8" and was a size 12 in high school 20 years ago. Now I am about 15 pounds heavier (150), and a size 10. I still have size 12 old clothes, and I can see that they are way smaller than the current size 10. Size 12 is where the fat store starts selling clothes (e.g. Lane Bryant).
Most Americans are in total denial that they are obese, and that obesity is measured by only 30 pounds over ideal weight. i have friend who tell me they only need to loose 10 pounds, and I consider them obese ('cause I do obesity research and know the true definitions).
Most of the people in these pictures are technically obese

Purpleman - I think you're sadly misinformed about what a size twelve means. The sizing of clothing has changed over the past several decades, so to put today's size twelve in perspective, Marilyn Monroe would be a size twelve today. Rita Hayworth would have been a 12, as would Jane Russell (although, *gasp*, she might have been a size 14!) Size twelve is actually a healthy size for women to be, speaking from a medical perspective. You know, for the majority of women, it's not good for them physically to be a size 0, 2, or even 4. The majority - and as you say, the average - of size twelve women are right in the middle of their prime weight. So quit judging, and quit propagating unhealthy attitudes toward women. Or else we women will have to start fighting back, and judging all men out there by the size of their anatomy, and I doubt you'd like that so much.
