  • 16. Horses were not slaughtered humanely. Horses had to be rendered unconscious prior to slaughter. In order to do so steel rods were injected into their brains (you cannot consume a euthanized animal because your liver cannot break down the toxin). The horse was then strung up by a back leg and gutted. Sometimes they would wake during the process of being strung up and gutted because the steel rod was not entirely effective. Furthermore, the horses were treated horribly on the way to the slaughterhouse. They were often unfit to travel due to illness and lameness. The were transported in over crowded, often illegal (double decker), livestock trailers. Many were not afforded food and water. There is nothing humane about horse slaughter.

  • 17. In the Iowa caucus, the Up and Coming Generation has spoken. We do care. We will vote. It's time our government listens to the American people on ALL issues.

  • 18. "The American tradition of loving and respecting horses existed long before there was a United States. Americans [USED HORSES] to plow the fields and to carrying soldiers to battle." Yea, real respectful. How many of those horses were pushed to exhaustion? So long as animals used for food are slaughtered with minimal pain and suffering. Has to beat the torture of horse racing.

  • 19. Their is not a rats ass in hell he'd get my vote now! http://www.sharkonline.org/?P=0000000528 Click to watch the 8-minute video: "The Reality of Horse Slaughter" Just the FACTS: The American tradition of loving and respecting horses existed long before there was a United States. Americans counted on horses to build this nation; to plow the fields and to carrying soldiers to battle. Horses are for many people part of their family, and they are considered to be companion animals, just as dogs and cats are. Unfortunately, not everyone in the United States is willing to give the horse the respect it deserves. There are those who are willing to see horses killed for profit, and that is who this website seeks to expose. Horse slaughter proponents claim to care about horses, but the facts and the video footage tell a very different story.

  • 20. Why do people get so uptight about killing a horse for meat? Take that dead cow of your plate, then preach. Shark fin soup is yummy, but I have a hard time eating it when sharks are not as plentiful. I would probably give horse a try if I had the chance.

  • 21. Huckabee raised a kid who tortured and then killed a stray dog for sport. In true underhanded, backdoor politic fashion, he had it silenced. Now I find out his favorite meal is made from horsemeat? Don't worry folks, this freak will show his true colors. As the American people learn more about him, they will be as disgusted as we are. He doesn't have a prayer of being elected. Enjoy your 15 minutes Hucka ByeBye.

  • 22. Huckabee is the man for me! I pretty much already had my mind made up but since our favorite dishes are the same that pushed me over the edge. Now pass me a hoss burger and go Huckabee 2008!!

  • 23. Oh but it does matter - his favorite food choice is just NOW hitting the internet forums and as silly as it seems, it will certainly make a lot of people angry.

  • 24. You can't buy horse meat in the US. The 3 plants that processed and sold horse meat in the US were ALL forced to close so there is no way Huckabee is eating in on the campaign trail. (2nd attempt to post this information)

  • 25. In 2008, an equine-friendler environment will be ushered in when old traditions and views fade away - just like Huckabee's dream of being President will fade away.

  • 26. I want to encourage Mr. Huckabee to go to http://www.vetsforequinewelfare.org/ and do some research before he puts the next bite of horse into his mouth. 34,806 of America's horses have been slaughtered in Mexico (up 322%) and 13,144 in Canada (up 60 %) 92 % of these horses are young and healthy according to the USDA.I am sure Mr. Huckabee is glad to hear that as who really will pay for and eat an old sick horse ? I am sure he will be glad to know widespread polling in several states always reaches the same conclusion - American voters believe it is a crime to slaughter a horse for human consumption. When they learn that it is not, 88%-93% believe that the slaughter of American horses should be illegal. Americans find it offensive to eat a horse due to our culture, and it is our culture that shapes our laws. Mr. Huckabee if you truly want to be President I advise you to take those 88 to 93 % of Americans into consideration.

  • 27. They eat horses, don't they?

  • 28. Where's Biden?

  • 29. Huck's son tortures dogs, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, right ol' huck? The minute I heard he was a preacher, that was enough for me. Hit them where it hurts, GoVeg!

  • 30. By eating horse meat Huckabee is supporting a foreign industry that brutalizes American horses. American horses are being slaughter in Canada and Mexico and shipped to Europe and Japan. Other horses are going to Japan to be slaughter there. The transportation of these horses is torture. Even though it is illegal, blind, pregnant and lame horses are shipped in crowded conditions without food or water with hardly a place to stand. If they fall they are trampled to death. I would never vote for him. He does not have any compassion for God's creatures. Shame on him.
