Why do so many people refer to pot(and only pot) as a 'gateway' drug? Whats alcohol? I have witnessed a lot of people drink and lose their inhibitions and try drugs a lot harder and more harmful than weed.
I smoke medical pot.I've got a pretty nasty disease that causes me a lot of pain.There is nothing I could do to avoid getting this disease and taking the meds give me horrible side effects.The medications, which are supposed to be helping me,are killing me.Based on your fuzzy logic(this is directed at the anti-weed peeps) I don't have the right to medicate with weed because it's a drug.However,did you know it's impossible to OD on pot? No one has ever OD'd on weed.Why is it a drug then? Oh,cause it gives you a slowed reaction time?Well so does alcohol.Why isn't pot treated like alcohol. People need to stop believing the propaganda that they were raised with.Pot has been here for thousands of years and for thousands of years it has been used as a medicine and it has yet to kill a person.Get over your preconcieved notions of what a Drug is because any doctor will tell you that the methadone I used to have to take for my pain-will kill me one hell of a lot faster than the pot I smoke.
I totally agree with LAYLA. I am a physician that recieves trauma patients in the ER after accidents of any kind--shootings, stabbings, car crashes, etc... and I can safely say that none of them have ever been attributable to marijuana, but more than half are due to alcohol. (A lot due to women ;) )Actually the potheads are the most cooperative and calm of the patients, and the alcoholics are the assholes. This is not to say that I think it's safe to drive if you are impaired by any substance, but marijuana is far less evil than alcohol in my opinion.

As for pot being harmless, I personally don't think that's the issue. At the very least it is only as bad as alcohol which is legal. From 20 years of my own research for legitimate studies on the subject, the most thorough being the 2000 Harvard Medical School study, it is not as bad as alcohol.
Consider this; I don't doubt that asking inmates what drug they tried first would bring about the response of "pot." Most people don't consider sneaking beers at family reunions and getting into the family liquor cabinet drug incidents. However, we all know alcohol is a drug. I read a study that says the first drug kids get their hands on is technically caffeine. Of course, that stuff is perfectly legal and no stigma attached, so I'm not making that point. But then comes nicotine and alcohol, basically interchangeably, then pot. Too bad you can't ask them again doodlin'.
For people who have never heard of anyone getting busted for driving under the influence of pot, have you ever wondered at the difference of the charge of "DWI" and "DUI"? DWI is driving while intoxicated and is usually used regarding alcohol. DUI is driving under the Influence and covers impairment caused by drugs; heroin, prescription drugs, cocaine, meth, and yes, pot. Surely you've known or read about someone taken to jail for "DUI"?
I'm definitely NOT encouraging the over- indulgence of alcohol but people who claim pot is harmless are misleading themselves and others. I worked in a jail for over 3 yrs. and just to satisfy my own couriosity, asked inmates who were jailed (most repeatedly), what was the first drug they ever experimented with. I was surprised to hear approx. 90% answer, "Pot".

Im sure you were in the front seat of the short bus while wearing your crash helmet 24/7. alcohol KILLS, pot does not. you dont like it, dont smoke it, but I bet you drink yourself full and drive to the store when your out.and another piece I almost thought was a joke,,"Enjoy your freedoms but respect the law and our democracy. And IF you get caught THEN ACCEPT YOUR PUNISHMENT." I have a problem respecting the law when those same people are busted almost daily for a mulititude of different crimes, along with the elected officials, and smoking pot is one of their crimes. so dont get on a site and start preaching about respecting something or someone when you know as well as I do, statistically, alcohol kills people DAILY,I cant recall the last time I heard of a car wreck that took a life after someone smoked a joint.
